What Is a Crypto Portfolio Calculator?

A crypto portfolio calculator is a tool for estimating the value and performance of cryptocurrency investments. It helps investors organize digital asset holdings, compare purchase prices with current market prices, and calculate the estimated profit or loss of each asset and the overall portfolio.

Cryptocurrency investors may hold several digital assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies. Tracking each holding manually can become difficult when prices change frequently. A portfolio calculator brings the key figures together in one place.

How to Use This Cryptocurrency Portfolio Tracker

  1. Enter the name and ticker symbol of your cryptocurrency.
  2. Enter the quantity of the asset you currently own.
  3. Enter your average purchase price per coin or token.
  4. Enter the current price per coin or token.
  5. Choose the currency used for all your entered prices.
  6. Select Add to Portfolio to calculate your results.
  7. Repeat for your other holdings and review the summary and allocation.
  8. Update current prices when you want to estimate your portfolio again.

Crypto Portfolio Calculator Formulas

Investment cost:

Quantity owned ร— Average purchase price

Current market value:

Quantity owned ร— Current price

Estimated profit or loss:

Current market value โˆ’ Investment cost

Percentage return:

(Profit or loss รท Investment cost) ร— 100

Portfolio allocation:

(Market value of an individual asset รท Total market value of all assets) ร— 100

These formulas assume the purchase cost can be approximated using the quantity and average purchase price entered. They do not provide a complete tax-lot calculation or account for transactions that have not been entered.

Example: Calculating Bitcoin Portfolio Profit

Suppose you own 0.1 BTC and your average purchase price was $60,000 per BTC. Your estimated investment cost is $6,000. If the current price is $65,000, the holding's estimated market value is $6,500.

The estimated profit is $500, equivalent to an 8.33% return on the original purchase cost, before fees and taxes. This is an illustrative example, not a prediction of future Bitcoin performance.

Why Portfolio Allocation Matters

Portfolio allocation shows how much of your total portfolio value is represented by each holding. For example, if Bitcoin represents 70% of your portfolio's current value, its price movements may have a substantial effect on your overall portfolio.

Allocation calculations can help you understand concentration risk. However, holding several cryptocurrencies does not necessarily provide effective diversification because digital assets may move in similar directions during volatile market conditions.

Important Limitations of Crypto Portfolio Tracking

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to track my crypto portfolio?

Keep a consistent record of each cryptocurrency's quantity, average purchase price, and current price. Update prices regularly and record deposits, withdrawals, fees, and trades separately when you need more complete performance reporting.

Can I use this calculator for Bitcoin and Ethereum?

Yes. Enter BTC for Bitcoin or ETH for Ethereum, together with the quantity held, average purchase price, and current price. You can also add other cryptocurrencies.

Does this calculator display live crypto prices?

No. This version uses manually entered prices. It does not connect to an exchange or cryptocurrency price API. Update each current-price field using a reliable market data source before relying on the results.

How do I calculate my total cryptocurrency profit?

Calculate the current market value of each holding and subtract its estimated purchase cost. Add the individual results together to estimate total portfolio profit or loss. Include fees and other transactions separately for a more complete result.

Can this calculator tell me which cryptocurrency to buy?

No. It is a tracking and calculation tool, not an investment recommendation service. It does not assess whether an asset is suitable for your circumstances or predict future prices.

Does this calculator save my portfolio automatically?

This version keeps the portfolio in the current page session and does not send it to a server. Your holdings are not automatically saved between visits. Export your data to CSV if you want a copy.

Is the crypto portfolio calculator free?

Yes. The calculator is designed to be free to use. It provides estimates based on the information you enter, without guaranteeing profits or future performance.
